We were contacted by Sam who asked if we could carry out some work on her Vespa Smallframe. Sam has owned the Vespa for over 25 years and had taken it off the road to restore it.
The little Vespa had been through various workshops and mechanics but after a few years the work on the scooter seemed to have stalled.
We took the project on and after modifying the the exhaust so it would fit, fitting a new clutch, various control cables, fixing the brakes so they were operational, fitting a new steering lock, fabricating some mounts for the wheel trims as well as a host of other small jobs the Vespa was returned to Sam with a new MOT so she could enjoy riding it.
David Carters Grey Mini Turbo project (on the website as “late mini cooper“) that we finished building last year has just had a full 8 page feature carried out on it in Februarys edition on Mini Magazine.
We are very pleased to hear that the reporter was very impressed by the one of touches that we integrated in to the car and that even with its 140bhp engine the car has proved to be bullet proof and reliable.
Ian had purchased an already built and run Citroen Saxo stock hatch and bought it to our workshops for a set up and check over.
With the car declared all fit and ready to go Ian entered the National stock hatch championship and very quickly found himself on the pace.
Ian completed all rounds of the championship and at the end of the season he found himself in fifth place in the points table.
This was an excellent result for a novice driver in his first season of motorsport.
We recently had Ken Hunts MBC Racing/ Pirtek Mini in for a suspension set up. We made a few changes to the car and in his second ever race Ken managed to go a second a lap quicker and collected a trophy for 2nd in class. Ken noted that the car felt much more composed and more stable.
We will be working with Ken and his team to make some more changes to the mini and push it up the grid during the forth coming seasons. We would like to congratulate Ken on a good performance.
We were contacted by a thoroughly frustrated mini owner who’s SPI Mini needed a push forward. The company that were restoring it had taken ages to not do very much so McNair Motorsport stepped in and collected the project and took it to our workshops where it was assessed before making a plan of attack.
The Mini did not need any major panel work so we fitted new A panels, rear hinge panel, rear valence plus various small repairs. Our painter then prepared the mini and gave it a top class paint job in red with a white roof.
We delivered the mini back to its jubilant owner who then re-assembled the car.
Our workshops were paid a visit by Rhys and his mini Sonic for a make over. We started by identifying any rust and then fitting new front wings, front panel, windscreen scuttle panel, rear hinge panel and various other small repairs. The mini was shipped to our painters where it was painted in a fetching shade of blue with satin black arches and bumpers. We reassembled the mini with a carbon fibre rear valence, new satin black trim and the new boot lid which had been airbrushed with a Sonic the Hedgehog theme.
Once we had given the mini a suspension set up and a thorough service and tune Sonic was collected by its happy owner.
The day dawned bright and sunny and with the TVR checked and cleared to race by the scrutineers Pete headed out on to the circuit where he posted a time quick enough to put the little car in the middle of the grid. After 15 minutes he headed in to the pitlane where the driving duties were handed over to Lee who spent the remaining 15 minutes of the session getting used to and learning the car.
When the qualifying results were published the team were happy to see that they were in the middle of the pack and with the knowledge that they could go quicker the race was being looked forward to. As the day progressed the weather started to close in and the meeting had to be abandoned due to bad fog. The team left the circuit happy with their qualifying position but disappointed they did not get to race.
McNair Motorsport were privileged to be contacted by Retro Cars Magaine who were interested in carrying out a full feature on the TVR Vixen that we built. After seeing the car in the flesh a photo shoot was arranged where the photographer took over 100 pictures of the yellow car.
The owner/driver of the car was contacted and interviewed for the forth-coming feature. When the magazine hit the shelves we were happy to see a 4 page feature had been written about the racer.
McNair Motorsport had a visit from racer Chris Brown who owns this very modified and very well built Ford Fiesta. We carried out a full suspension set up on the car including corner weighting and making sure the Fiesta complied with the minimum weight regulations.
Chris instantly noticed the difference out on track where he managed to better the fastest lap time of Brands Hatch he had ever completed.
The workshop was honoured to have a visit from a Cooper Car Company Mini Cooper S for some work to be carried out. We were contracted to plumb the fuel and brake lines with all the hoses running through the car, finish the fitting and connecting of the wiring loom, fit the twin fuel tanks, trim and fit the carpets, fit the bright work, complete the engine instillation, fit the front brakes, fit all dampers and then carry out a full suspension set up.
The car will be making its debut at the classic car show in Birmingham.
The workshop had an interesting car booked in for some fabrication work an MG ZR. This particular car had been fitted with a Rover 220 turbo engine and gearbox and required some finishing off plus a face lift front end fitted.
With the front end removed a new front panel was welded in before the new wings, bumper and bonnet with aero catches were fitted and lined up. We also fabricated radiator and inter-cooler mounts as well as inter-cooler hoses, cured a couple of oil leaks and carried out some aluminium welding to the radiator.
Both cars had suspension set ups carried out by ourselves. The cars performed faultlessly throughout the day with all drivers happy with the progress they were making.
You can see these cars running in the CSCCs championships and we will be helping all we can to make sure that they are at the front on the grid.
After building, running and developing our Honda Integra for the last 7 years a decision has been made to move on to something different.
After looking at various cars we have purchased a 2007 Radical Prosport.
The car has a mid mounted Suzuki GSX1300R Hyabusa engine and gearbox which has 200bhp and a 6 speed sequential gearbox.
The chassis is a purpose built spaceframe with front crashbox structure, four piece lightweight body, centre lock split rims and various high downforce aerodynamic devices.
The car weighs in at a lightweight sub 500kgs.
It has a 140mph top speed and a sub 4 second 0-60mph time.
We will be testing the car this year with a view to racing it later on in the season.
The Miglia was bought to the workshop to have a main wiring loom made and fitted to the car as well as the ecu loom and Stack dash loom fitted.
Once the work had been completed Lee joined a team of 3 other classic Minis, 1 Renault Clio and a Caterham to take on the Birkett 6 hour relay race. The team had an excellent result where they managed to finish in a very creditable 39th overall in the scratch race out of 69 finishers.
The car had been self built by one of our customers and then it had been taken to the Wesfield factory for a full check over and IVA test.
Once the car had passed its IVA and Westfield had passed the car fit the customer collected it and bought it in to our workshops as the handling of the car was not as pinpoint as it should have been.
We checked the ride heights and corner weights which were found to be very un-equal. The car was then put on the 4 wheel aligner where the angles on the Westfield were found to be very odd. With all the settings corrected and set the customer collected his pride and joy and could not believe the difference in the driving experience.
We will be helping the team with various aspects of running and developing the classic Mini during the season.
The Fire Fighters Race Team is a charitable organisation that was set up to raise funds and awareness of the Fire Fighters charity that helps family’s and Fire Fighters injured in the line of duty.
The racing season hasn’t started yet but we are actively preparing the car and considering some testing.
